Massage therapist applying firm forearm pressure to a client's shoulder during a deep tissue massage in a modern therapy studio

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Best for chronic tension, neck pain, lower back pain, and post-workout recovery.

  • Releases chronic muscle tension
  • Reduces neck, shoulder, and lower-back pain
  • Breaks up adhesions and scar tissue
  • Speeds up post-workout recovery
  • Improves range of motion

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure and targeted strokes to reach the deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue around muscles). It is especially helpful for chronic tension and stubborn knots that do not respond to lighter work.

Key benefits

  • Releases chronic muscle tension

  • Reduces neck, shoulder, and lower-back pain

  • Breaks up adhesions and scar tissue

  • Speeds up recovery after intense training

  • Improves range of motion over time

What to expect during a session

The therapist will use forearms, knuckles, and elbows in addition to thumbs. Pressure is firm but should never be painful - communicate if a spot is too intense. Some soreness the next day is normal, similar to a workout.

Who it is for

Deep tissue is for people with chronic tension, athletes, desk workers with neck and shoulder pain, and anyone who has tried Swedish massage and wants something stronger.
