What is Swedish massage?

Swedish massage is the foundation of most Western massage techniques. It uses long, gliding strokes, kneading, and circular movements on the top layers of muscles to help you relax, release tension, and improve circulation.

It is the most common type of massage offered in spas, wellness centers, and by mobile therapists. Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes.

What to expect during a session

You will lie on a padded table or sit comfortably while the therapist uses oil or lotion to glide their hands over your body. Pressure is light to medium by default - speak up if you want firmer work. Most people feel deeply relaxed by the end of the session.

Who it is for

Swedish massage is ideal if you are new to massage, dealing with everyday stress, or simply want a relaxing full-body session. If you have specific deep muscle pain, consider deep tissue instead.
